An Open Letter to Toronto: Michael Bishop Is Not Going To Save You

Dear Toronto,

Michael Bishop is not going to save you, despite what you may think, so feel free to refrain from any further discussion that he is the second coming of Christ. In tossing the Damon out with the bathwater this past week, youve not only spat on the legacy of one of the most important quarterbacks in the history of the CFL in exchange for a kid thats had two semi-solid performances. Thats semi-solid like semi-sweet chocolate, serviceable for the task but lacking in serious amounts of taste, texture of talent.

Before you go anointing Michael Bishop as the Pope Of Toronto, take a look at their last two games. A tie against a middle of the road Winnipeg team in one thing to worry about. Nobody gets ties in football games anymore, its like an insult to the craft, you see one every three years and it gets looked at as a black mark on the team because its a sure sign that nobody was able to convert their chances. If youre unable to capitalize against a team thats barely able to make the playoffs this year, youre going to need to step up your game.

Yes, Bishop did connect for three touchdown passes in his last game. Trouble is friends and neighbors, it was against the Hamilton Tigercats, a team that looks like theyre going to roll over and die after two games of the season. Really, no disrespect to Timmy Chang, a man who did great things for Hawaii but do you really expect a team to taken seriously when their QB is a guy named Timmy Freakin Chang?!?!?!?!

Lets remember that Bishop, despite being a Heisman Trophy candidate at one point, was in front of tom Brady on the New England Patriots depth-chart at one point in his career and look at him now. Fronting the Argos in their quest for respectability after theyve gone and peed on one of the greatest QBs ever. This could very well be the case of the re-birth of someone like Andrew Ware, remember him? A Heisman winner who backed up Doug Flutie for the Argos, he was praised as the second coming when he was signed, only to end up playing for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe for five games before washing out of football completely.

History holds true here folks, Torontos highly praised new kids dont have a hell of a track record so lets hope that the special teams and defense can hold the team up for the rest of the season because I get the feeling thats the QB situation is only going to get worse from here.

Regardless of the caliber of team that Bishop has faced this year he has shown the ability over this year and last to rifle the ball into a receiver who is wearing a DB like a winter coat. If the Argo's O-line doesn't give him the time he rolls out and seems to have the same accuracy on the run. Lastly, no need for our deep threat to have to put on the brakes to wait for an under thrown ball to float down, Bishop can lead any deep receiver with ease.
I think the CFL hasn't seen anything like this kind of arm before.

"I was born in I856 in Kalamakee, Mich., of honest and reputable parents, one of whom Heaven has mercifully spared to comfort me in my later years. In I867 the family came to California and settled near Nigger Head, where my father
wow power leveling opened a road agency and prospered beyond the dreams of avarice. He was a reticent, saturnine man then, though his increasing years have now somewhat relaxed the austerity of his disposition, and I believe that nothing but his memory of the sad event for which I am now on trial prevents him from manifesting a genuine hilarity.

"Four years after we had set up the road agency an itinerant preacher came along, and having no other way wow power leveling to pay for the night's lodging that we gave him, favored us with an exhortation of such power that, praise God, we were all converted to religion. My father at once sent for his brother the Hon. William Ridley of Stockton, and on his arrival turned over the agency to him, charging him nothing for the franchise nor plant - the latter consisting of a Winchester rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, and an assortment of masks made out of flour sacks. The family then moved to Ghost Rock and opened a dance house. It was called 'The Saints' Rest Hurdy-Gurdy,' and the proceedings each night began with prayer. It was there that my now sainted mother, by her grace in the dance, acquired the sobriquet of 'The Bucking Walrus.'

"In the fall of '75 I had occasion to visit Coyote, on the road to Mahala, and took the stage at Ghost Rock. There were four other passengers. About three miles beyond Nigger Head, persons whom I identified as my Uncle William and his two sons held up the stage. Finding nothing in the express box, they went through the passengers. I acted a most honorable part in the affair,

From my behavior no one could have suspected that I knew the gentlemen who gave the entertainment. A few days later, when I went to Nigger Head and asked for the return of my money and watch my uncle and cousins swore they knew nothing of the matter, and they affected a belief that my father and I had done the job ourselves in dishonest violation of commercial good faith. Uncle William even threatened to retaliate by starting an opposition dance house at Ghost Rock.

As 'The Saints' Rest' had become rather unpopular, I saw that this would assuredly ruin it and prove a paying enterprise, so I told my uncle that I was willing to overlook the past if he would take me into the scheme and keep the partnership a secret from my father. This fair offer he rejected, and I then perceived that it would be better and more satisfactory if he were dead.
