Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby!

Nothing compares to seeing a CFL game live, as i was able to do this weekend at the Rogers Centre.  The weather was gorgeous, the score was glorious, and the crowd was both gorgeous and glorious. 28.000 plus got to see the Argonaut defence shut down Sir Charles Roberts, limiting him to just 5 yards rushing in the first half.

With so little action early in the game, on the field, i was easily distracted by all the things you miss on TV, notably the action off the field.  Ted Rogers was kind enough to set us up at the goal line, second row from the field.  From there we could see all you'd ever want to see:  contests up close, cheerleaders doing their twists and flips, and fans getting into the game.

The highlight of the night (off the field) had to be the two lovely ladies taking in their first football game (and slyly, or so they say, first beers).  These two cheered for every amazing play (regardless of the team), every amazing stoppage in play (wonderfully so), and each and every Argo personel, mascot, and officer that passed their way.  During a game that seemed wrapped up by the first half, these two provided our money's worth of entertainment, and i wish i could have them at every game i attend.

Which just goes to prove that attending a CFL game first hand is an experience in itself.  Even though i was wearing my hand knitted sweater that my mom made me when i was twelve (Winnipeg Blue Bombers 1988 Grey Cup Champions) the Toronto crowd was friendly, talkative, and all smiles.  It helped that Pinball's patented plan went perfect.  He often claims that his team needs points from all three facets of the game, and he got it.  A kickoff return for a touchdown started the Argos off, a touchdown on offense, setup by an earlier play courtesy the return of Arland Bruce widened the lead, and an interception return for a touchdown sealed the deal.  Pinball couldn't have planned it more perfectly.
